Description
The Lady Maryland is seen here in the north branch of the Patapsco River in the Port of Baltimore. The photograph was shot from the shore of Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine and is looking north toward the shores of Baltimore's Canton community.
A Pungy is a type of schooner that sailed the Chesapeake Bay in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It was used as a fast workboat to carry perishable cargo throughout the region. None were in existence after the 1950s - until the Lady Maryland was built in 1986 for the Baltimore-based Living Classrooms Foundation as a training vessel. She is the only Pungy Schooner in existence today.
There are two version of this scene. The other version contains a "framing" of tree limbs at the top of the image while this one does not.
