Artist's Description

The "Big Guns" of Fort Miles were housed in heavily built fortifications such as Battery 519 inside the Great Dune at Fort Miles, near Lewes, Delaware. The fort protected the entrance to Delaware Bay during World War II and is now being transformed into a first-class military museum at, what is today, Cape Henlopen State Park. The 12-inch gun seen in this panorama was resurrected from the Battleship Wyoming.
