Description
One seldom gets to see an entire cumulonimbus - thunderstorm cloud - without obstructions. Here is a black and white (B&W) view of a thunderstorm at sea, photographed while aboard Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas while out in the Atlantic Ocean, somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle. Fortunately, the ship did not experience this particular storm but did provide this unique view that could be a meteorology lesson.
Cumulonimbus clouds often reach elevations of 40,000 feet and create great power, These are towering, vertical clouds, formed from water vapor carried aloft by powerful upward air currents. In this view, we see the shelf-like bottom with torrential rain falling into the ocean. We also see the fluffy top, lighted brightly by the late day sun.
