Description
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, in this case with a composite sunset sky added over an ice-flo covered bay, is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the East Coast. The 4-mile span connects Maryland's Eastern Shore with the mainland, and it provides a stunning view of the bay during the day. But at sunset, something truly magical happens. When you look up at the sky from a cruise ship about to pass under the bridge (in this case), you'll see a (composite) sky and the golden hues of sunset over icy waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
The Bay Bridge has always been a popular spot for stargazers, but recent advances in technology have made it even more special. With modern cameras and editing software, photographers can capture multiple images and combine them to create an incredible composite image that showcases a beautiful sunset in all its glory. And when you add in the unique vantage point that comes with being on the Grandeur of the Seas about to pass under the bridge, you get a view that is out-of-this-world.
Officially, the William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge, this dual structure spans over four miles of the Chesapeake Bay connecting Maryland's Western Shore to Kent Island and the Maryland Eastern Shore on the Delmarva Peninsula. Standing 186 feet high at the highest point, this bridge instills fear in the hearts of many drivers who cross it. However, most drivers and passengers simply revel in the beauty of this engineering marvel.
