Zantedeschia aethiopica, the Calla Lily, is a beautiful flower with many color options. This example is, of course, pink or lavender and is one of Nancy's Calla Lilies, found in the gardens bordering her home in coastal Delaware near the towns of Fenwick Island, DE and Ocean City, MD. This variety of lily is typically found in border gardens and it grows well mixed in among other plants, such as the holly seen in this photograph, composed by Bill Swartwout Photography.
Callas are called by other names such as arum lily, pig lily, trumpet lily, or Miniature Calla Lily. Calla lilies supposedly originated in Southern Africa but are now found around the world because they are easy to grow. They start from a bulb or rhizome (root segment) and require minimal care.
