Artist's Description
The pierhead light at Charlevoix, Michigan is an aid to navigation on Lake Michigan delineating the pier/breakwater at the entrance to the harbor of Round Lake. The city was named for the French explorer Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix and the light began operation in 1885. In 1948 the original wooden structure was replaced with the present steel tower.
In 2005, Charlevoix South Pier Lighthouse, deemed excess by the Coast Guard, was offered at no cost to eligible entities, including federal, state, and local agencies, non-profit corporations, and educational organizations under the provisions of the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000.
About Bill Swartwout
"For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move." Robert Louis Stevenson... My photography reflects such wanderlust. I have had my work published for more than half a century, starting as a junior reporter for a local newspaper in 1964. I have been involved with industrial photography, wedding photography and real estate photography but my love has always been landscape and seascape photography. Today I concentrate strictly on photography as art. Purchase one of my pieces to...
