Description
Old Glory, Long May She Wave! A replica of the original "Storm Flag" flies over For McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland on a crisp autumn day.
The actual entrance to Fort McHenry was always its weakest point. Therefore a Ravelin was built opposite the entrance to force enemy troops to break into two parts and then enter the deadly field of fire between the Ravelin and the entrance. The U.S. Army built the original ravelin and dry moat in 1813 to provide a first line of defense against a land attack, which never came.
This photograph was shot from inside one of the two doors along the ravelin's rear walls leading to an underground magazine where gunpowder and ammunition were stored just after the Civil War.
Are you a history buff or just a fan of Baltimore? Either way you will enjoy hanging this photograph by Bill Swartwout in your home or office. Wouldn't this flag flying over the entrance to Fort McHenry make a great conversation piece?
