Description
Saying "Hello" is Patricia Irene, a pinto pony. Patricia Irene is one of nearly 130 wild ponies on Assateague Island in Maryland. Part of this natural barrier island is a Maryland State Park and the other part is the Assteague Island National Seashore. The wild ponies, likely well known because of the book, "Misty of Chincoteague," are a national treasure.
These feral animals are rather amazing in that they fend for themselves in a rather harsh environment. They mange to survive the summer influx of tourists - that are more of an impediment to their lives that is their harsh natural surroundings.
