Description
A National Historic Landmark, the USS Constellation lies at her permanent berth at Constellation Dock, Pier 1, Inner Harbor, Baltimore, Maryland. This view, of her starboard side just behind the bow, shows gun ports and two of her cannons, which were the more "modern" shell-firing guns, making her a rather formidable "sloop of war."
The USS Constellation was the last all-sail vessel to have been built by the United States Navy. She was in service, in a variety of roles, during the Civil War and World Wars I and II. She served our country for 100 years from her commissioning in 1855 to her final decommissioning in 1955.
If you have visited Baltimore you have certainly seen this historic war ship. You may have even done the self-guided tour of the ship - which is a fascinating experience. It's always better to be here in person - to actually walk the decks and feel the ship move under your feet. But, if you can't actually be here, you can purchase a print such as this to enjoy in your own home. Where will you display it?
