Description
Almost like standing guard, this lone red maple leaf stands tall next to the St. Georges Bridge in St. Georges, Delaware. This solitary leaf (almost like the leaf on a Canadian Flag) is on the north shore while the old bridge crosses the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal (C&D Canal) to connect the bifurcated town of St. Georges. While the focus is on the leaf, photographer Bill Swartwout, included a blurred out bridge as a composition component to this unique photograph.
The C&D Canal connects the Delaware Bay to the Chesapeake Bay enabling shipping to (freighters, container ship, etc.) to take a "short cut" from one bay to the other - maybe from the Port of Philadelphia to the Port of Baltimore.
