Description
The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, also known as "Gettysburg Seminary" or "Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary," is located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It is one of eight seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the USA. Founded in 1826, it is the oldest continuously operating Lutheran seminary in the United States.
During the battle of Gettysburg, the seminary, on a ridge west of the town, became a focal point of action on the first day of battle, July 1, 1863. The seminary gave its name to "Seminary Ridge," where the line of battle of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia was formed on 2 and 3 July 1863.
