On a cold and windy December morning, the Wright Brothers achieved the world's first controlled, powered flight at Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina. They realized not only their own dream, but also one of humanity's oldest dreams - TO FLY. This boulder and markers to the right mark the takeoff and landing places of those first four flights on December 17, 1903.
The plaque on the boulder in inscribed with: "The First Successful Flight of an Airplane was made from this spot by - Orville Wright - December 17, 1903 in a machine designed and built by Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright. This tablet was erected by the National Aeronautic Association of the U.S.A December 17, 1928 to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of this event.
