Description
The Embassy of the Republic of Latvia to the United States of America is a Spanish Mission architectural style building at 2306 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20008. Built in 1902 for District of Columbia socialite and cultural philanthropist, Alice Pike Barney, this structure has served many purposes until 2005 when it became the Latvian Embassy.
The Alice Pike Barney House in on the National Register of Historic Places and the D.C. Inventory of Historic Sites. The attached stucco "carriage house" (left) was added to the original structure in 1911. This was only the second home to be built in the vicinity of Sheridan Circle. The holiday tree in this photograph is adorned with traditional Latvian ornaments and, in the photographer's opinion, is the most festive of all decorations along Embassy Row.
This would make a wonderful addition to the home of anyone interested in Latvia and/or historic Washington architecture. Where would you display it?
