Description
Ralph, the Great Egret - Ardea alba - appears to be scratching an itch as he keep an eye on the fishing pier, the fishermen and any available bait. He also keep an eye out for any injured fish that may be getting away. The locals named him Ralph. Evidently he needed a name of some sort because he so frequently hung around this particular pier.
Photographed on the fishing pier at Myrtle Beach State Park in South Carolina, this just as easily might be see at any of several fishing piers along the east coast. There are many "Ralphs" just looking for an easy meal.
