Description
These bright yellow cactus flowers were photographed at the Assateague Island National Seashore. These are scientifically identified as Opuntia humifusa, and more commonly known as the devil's-tongue, eastern prickly pear or Indian fig. The Prickly Pear a cactus native to parts of eastern North America.
These are found throughout all as Assateague Island, the national park and the Assateague State Park. The bright yellow flowers are beautiful to look at - but if you are visiting the beach you certainly don't want to wander off the path in your bare feet. Spiny! Spikes! Ouch!
