Artist's Description
This twilight view of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was taken by Bill Swartwout Photography from the top deck of Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas cruise ship as it sailed south from Baltimore for warmer climes. The Gov. William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge crosses the Chesapeake with a nearly four mile twin span, connecting the Maryland Western Shore with Kent Island on the Delmarva Peninsula.
Officially, the William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge, this dual structure spans over four miles of the Chesapeake Bay connecting Maryland's Western Shore to Kent Island and the Maryland Eastern Shore on the Delmarva Peninsula. Standing 186 feet high at the highest point, this bridge instills fear in the hearts of many drivers who cross it. However, most drivers and passengers simply revel in the beauty of this engineering marvel.
You can enjoy the beauty of this bridge in your own home or office. Where would you like to display it?
About Bill Swartwout
"For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move." Robert Louis Stevenson... My photography reflects such wanderlust. I record images of places to which I wander and distractions along the way. I love to share my joy of living at the beach and our travels afar, bringing you photographic art that reflects what I see. I have had my work published for more than half a century, starting as a junior reporter for a local newspaper in 1964. I have been involved with industrial photography, wedding photography and real estate photography but my love has always been landscape and seascape photography. Today I concentrate strictly on photography as art. Purchase one of my pieces to...
