Artist's Description

A mid-winter sunset over an icy Chesapeake Bay silhouettes the Baltimore Light along the frozen shoreline of Gibson Island near where the Magothy River joins the bay. This aid to navigation has been used to guide ships along the main shipping channel into Baltimore Harbor for decades. This image was photographed from the top deck of a cruise ship, the Grandeur of the Seas, as it embarked on a Caribbean vacation cruise - leaving from the Port of Baltimore.

About Bill Swartwout

Bill Swartwout

"For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move." Robert Louis Stevenson... My photography reflects such wanderlust. I have had my work published for more than half a century, starting as a junior reporter for a local newspaper in 1964. Today I concentrate strictly on photography as art. Purchase one of my pieces to...
