Description
The history of the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, on the Patapsco River in Baltimore, Maryland, dates back to 1776. However, the fort didn't become involved in any conflicts until it repelled the British attack on Baltimore on September 13-14, 1814, at the end of the War of 1812. That event, of course gave birth to our National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner.
